Oure for Nairobi boxing fight
Kenyan professional boxer Evans Ashira Oure is scheduled to fight an American opponent in Nairobi on August 25. The two-time World boxing championship title contender who is based in Denmark will be one of the pugilists who will be eyeing major world titles, which stand vacant at the moment, among them African boxing queens Congestina Achieng’, Fatuma Zarika both of Kenya and Zimbabwean, Monalisa Sibanda. Oure is planned to fight for the vacant world international boxing association (WIBA) Middleweight 12-round bout at Charter Hall in what is billed to be one of the most interesting boxing event held in the recent past. According to the promoters, Osaga De La International, it is much of an achievement to bring Oure back home not for a simple event but a very ambitious show considering the negotiations involved with the world regulatory body and the boxers themselves. Through promoter Caleb Kuya, the negotiations were successful and the stage is all set for the grand staging of Oure’s debut in Kenya since the boxer started his professional circuit. Oure has had an impressive record of 25 wins and only three loses since 1998 when he joined the paid ranks. At the same event, Congestina will be going for the WIBA middleweight, 10-round bout against Iva Watson from the Trinidad Spain while WIBF champion Fatuma Zarika face it off with American Alicia Arshley for the WIBA bantamweight, 10-round bout. Again, vacant WIBF light welterweight, 10-round bout will see Sibanda face Evelyne Odero of Kenya. On the men’s side, the vacant Global Boxing Union (GBU) Intercontinental bantamweight, 10-round fight will be between Peter Pembeni of Zimbabwe and Kenyan Twalib “Tanker” Mubiru; GBU Intercontinental featherweight, 10-round bout will be between yet another Kenyan Morris Chule against a Zimbabwean Meshack Kondowe while Mordechai Ndonga of Zimbabwe and Hamza Wandera of Uganda face off for the GBU middleweight, intercontinental title. Richard Masika from Zimbabwe will also face it off with Kenyan Kevin Onyango for the GBU light welterweight intercontinental title. On Saturday, July 14, the promoters organised another successful show at the same venue. The event saw the three women boxers easily flatten their opponents. Congestina defeated an equally challenging Emily Kubwa, Sibanda destroyed Florence Muthoni to the ground while Zarika made her presence felt by making a joke out of Diana Makumbe’s challenge when she floored her twice in the last yet the shortest fight of the day which lasted for just seconds.
